It’s time for Rule #2; this week we are guiding you through the best free family-friendly festivals.

If you want to drag the kids from the games console and experience some actual fresh air, maybe even get their creative juices flowing - then festivals are the way to go.

Glastonbury has the Kidzfield (a huge kids’ festival within the Festival), but it comes as no shock that Glasto will likely to cost a fortune.

We have listed some of the best free festivals from across the UK, including:
Fun and crafts for the kids, street food vendors for dad, maybe a cheeky Pimm’s for mum, and most importantly - great fun for the whole family.

Notting Hill Carnival
Where: Notting Hill, London
Dates: Sun 27 Aug - Mon 28 Aug
More Info

It’s the big one we all know, a massive street festival with vibrant costumes and floats. There's lots of music, great food and activities to keep the kids happy… you may even see a dancing policeman!

My advice would be to take the family on the Sunday, it's family day and has more of a relaxed atmosphere for the kids.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Where: Bristol
Dates: Thu 10 Aug - Sun 13 Aug

Over 150 hot-air balloons from across the globe come together for this event, creating breathtaking views.
With an entertainment village and lots of activities going on throughout the fiesta, this is definitely worth the trip!

Feel Good Festival
Where: Rochdale

A celebration of entertainment and culture.
There is lots to get involved in with, including appearances from celebrity chefs hosting cooking demonstrations and live music that will be headlined by indie-rock band Razorlight!
There's various activity tents with crafts and games to keep the kids smiling all day, hopefully blocking any chances of hearing the dreaded "I'm booored!".

Freedom Festival
Where: Hull
Dates: Fri 1 Sep - Sun 3 Sep
More Info

Music, food, a circus and a dragon! I’m sold! This year also marks the festival's tenth anniversary!
What better way to end the school holidays, all housed in the UK’s city of culture.

Monmouth Music Festival

Where: Monmouth
Dates: Fri 28 Jul - Sat 5 Aug
More Info

This festival of music is situated in the beautiful historic Welsh town of Monmouth.
Monmouth is showcasing an eclectic mix of iconic legends; local artists and up and coming young talent, dance, classical, country, folk, jazz, pop, rock’n roll, ska, world music and much more.

Nottingham Riverside Festival

Where: Nottingham
Dates: Fri 5 Aug - Sun 7 Aug
More Info

A unique and fun festival covering one mile along the banks of the River Trent, at Victoria Embankment, adjacent to Trent Bridge.

There will be lots of live music, great food and things to see, plus plenty for kids in the Children's Zone.
Don’t forget to watch the spectacular fireworks display on Saturday night, It’s a must see!

It's something not many of us may have experienced as children, but the reality is,
going to festivals with your kids is not such a crazy thing to do any more.
